Shaelia's neighboring nations include: the Greater Zartonian Empire to the east and south, and the Lyson Empire to the west. To the north of the Republic lies the Polaris Ocean, and to the west lies the North Gronkian Sea.

Etymology
The term Shaelic is believed to be derived from the predominant language of the northern Eras some 5,000 years ago, Kewan, and is taken to mean of this ground or more precisely belonging to this land. The ancient word Shalak came to be associated with the native peoples of the region (modern day Shaels) before the time of the TBD, and has since become the modern word Shaelic (Shaelic: Šaelea), referring to the Shaelic peoples, and to a lesser extent Shaelic culture and religion.

Politics
Government
The Shaelic Commonwealth is a democratic, multi-party republic comprised of fourteen states operating within the framework of a parliamentary system of government. There are three branches of government.
- The executive: the Commonwealth Prime Minister (Shaelic: Deiza Zoqe Ganunadera), commonly referred to by the abbreviation DZG. The Prime Minister heads the Cabinet (Shaelic: Udieabae), consisting of the Ministers of the Commonwealth. All members of the Cabinet are appointed by the Prime Minister and must be approved by the National Assembly by simple majority vote. The Foreign and Defense ministers do not require Assembly approval to be appointed and serve solely at the discretion of the Prime Minister.
- The legislature: Parliament (Shaelic: Sazebae), consisting of two bodies: the National Assembly (Shaelic: Zoqabae Ganeiri), also called the Commonwealth Assembly (Shaelic: Zoqabae Ganunadera), comprising 197 seats, and the Voices of the States (Shaelic: Domi Puvinum), consisting of 52 members known as Speakers.
-
-
- The National Assembly. Members of the National Assembly are known as Members of Parliament (Shaelic: Nadoma Sazebaera), abbreviated MP (NS in Shaelic), regardless of gender. Legislative sessions are held at Commonwealth House (Shaelic: Madu Ganunadera) at Rosestone Square in the Commonwealth's capital of Lat Shaele. MPs are elected from multi-seat constituencies, commonly known as Seats (Shaelic: Famum). Seats in the Assembly are allocated to states on the basis of population. Elections are held every two years, with fully one-half of all Assembly seats at stake in each election. The political faction with majority support in the Assembly forms the official Commonwealth Government, with its leader becoming Prime Minister (see Selection process of Prime Minister for more information).
- The Voices of the States. Members of the Voices of the States are known as Speakers (Shaelic: Domšora), abbreviated D, regardless of gender. Speakers are appointed by their respective states, who each elect between three and six, depending on their population.
-
- The judiciary: the Commonwealth First Court (Shaelic: 000) and other Commonwealth courts. Under the Articles of Union, each state maintains a State and District court system, that acts independently from the Commonwealth Judiciary in certain areas of law.
Suffrage
The Articles of Union provide that citizens of any state are eligible to vote in both general and special elections at any level of government, from local up through national. There are no gender restrictions, as the right to vote is open to both males and females. The age requirement is currently 16 years of age, having been raised from 15 years of age on December 14, 273 AP.
Voting is compulsory throughout the nation, and registering to vote upon reaching the age of 16 is required of all citizens. Failing to register is punishable by up to one year imprisonment and fines not exceeding š1,500. Imprisonment is rarely sentenced for failure to register, unless there is a history of criminal activity or problems by the offender. Penalties are less severe for not voting in an election – mostly small fines – and are rarely enforced. Voter turnout, however, is strong, and generally above 80% for most elections in the nation.
Political Parties
All political parties, often referred to as factions (Shaelic: Vélsies) domestically, must be registered and licensed to run candidates for elections. There are also minimum membership requirements to attain the proper licensing. At present, there are seven major political parties (S: Konvélsiem).

Political Divisions
Shaelia is comprised of fourteen states. The states are further subdivided into a total of 102 Districts (Shaelic: Tingúream), whose primary uses include postal codes and vehicle plate numbers. Each district is responsible for providing local public services and is legislatively beholden to the state in which is resides.

Culture

Faith and Religion
The Aersažulae (trans. State Faith) of the Commonwealth is officially Cruisanism, and has been since its formation in TBD. The Aerféðosa (trans. State Religion) of the Commonwealth is officially the Shaelic Cruisian Church, also known locally as Formíðasisa (Formithisism). This was also established with the nation's founding in TBD. Shaelic culture and the state have long made a distinction between Sažulae (faith) and Féðosa (religion), and they are not identical. Féðosa is the structure of Sažulae, and as such individuals may share Sažulae but may practice differing Féðosa.
The only officially sanctioned Sažulae in the Commonwealth is Cruisanism. All other Sažulae are technically illegal, but there are no laws strictly prohibiting their practice. Freedom of Féðosa is guaranteed in the Commonwealth Articles of Union and considered a sacred right of all human kind on Vexillium.
The 1307 census estimates performed by the Commonwealth Statistical Office (Shaelic: Jamoa Ganunadera), identified that just over 87% of Shaels identify themselves as Cruisians, or otherwise profess the Cruisian Sažulae. Shaels who identify themselves as followers of non-Cruisian Sažulaes number less than 2% of the population, with Mounism comprising nearly all of that number. More than 11% of the population categorizes themselves as Lec Sažulae ("Without Faith", which includes non-theistic beliefs such as atheism and agnosticism). Unlike the current trend in many predominately Cruisian nations, the level of active participation in worship services in the Commonwealth remains relatively high; weekly attendance at worship services amounts to roughly 58% of the population.
Language
Shaelic is the official language in the Commonwealth. According to the latest census, Shaelic is the only language spoken in the home of essentially 100% of the population. There is a strong connection between the culture and the language among the Shaelic people, and learning another language is widely discouraged, and in many states, official policy.
Media
The Shaelic Commonwealth has XXX commercial television networks, two public broadcasters (0000 and 000), several pay-TV services, and numerous public, non-profit television and radio stations. The Shaelic Commonwealth's film industry has achieved many critical and commercial successes. Each major city has daily newspapers, and there is a national daily newspaper, The Commonwealth.
Sports
Shaels have long been passionate about sports and sporting events, and sports play an important role in Shaelic culture. At the international level, the nation has strong teams in ice hockey and rugby, and performs well in boxing, diving, figure skating, and swimming events. Nationally, other popular sports include football, inline hockey, cricket, baseball, powerboat racing, and golf.
The nation has yet to participate in a VexGames competition.
Demographics
Ethnicity and Race
As a developed, wealthy nation on Eras with a robust, expanding economy and a highly-educated and technologically-savvy workforce, the Shaelic Commonwealth has drawn a diverse array of ethnicities to its shores. For more than twenty years, peoples from all over Vexillium have begun to immigrate to the nation in search of a better life and the prosperity they are often unable to find in their native lands. National policy is generally welcoming to immigrants, particularly those immigrants with skills which happen to be in short supply in the nation at any moment.
Despite more than two decades of robust immigration, a majority of the people are still 0000. The official government estimates report than 0000 comprise just over 0000% of the population, or more than 0000 million persons. The next largest ethnicity, comprising more than 00% of the population, is 0000, most tracing their roots to TBD and TBD. There is a strong 0000 community, concentrated mostly in 0000, that comprises approximately 00% of the population. 000, 000 and 00 each represent less than 0% of the populace. Those of 0000 or 000 origins each make up less than 1% of the population, respectively.
