Sport plays a central role in Shaelic culture. The temperate, oceanic climate has played a key part in the evolution of sport in the Commonwealth, with all-weather sports like rugbygolf, and football dominating the national sporting consciousness.

Sports of all kinds have been played for centures in the Shaelic Commonwealth, and sports are an integral part of Shaelic society. Competitive games have been a part of Shaelic culture for thousands of years, and even during the worst times, the people would turn to competitive events and sports for a brief respite from their hardships. With a high quality of life and continued economic prosperity of the last century, many are turning more than ever to organized sports for recreation and entertainment.

Competitive leagues and tournaments in a variety of sports exist all over the nation, and attendance for those events is on the rise. The sport of rugby is king in the Shaelic Commonwealth, and enjoys a massive, passionate following among the populace. Football and ice hockey enjoy widespread popularity as well, with thriving, well-attended professional leagues. Other popular sports include cricket, baseball, the native sport of Doeamtennis and archery.

National Sports Organizations

The National Sports Council (NSC) is the administrative and organizational body for all participation sports in the Shaelic Commonwealth and is funded through the Ministry of Sport. The organization also helps coordinate the nation’s participation in all international friendlies (with the various sport governing boards), tournaments, and a variety of competitions, save for the Summer and Winter VexGames.

The nation’s established sports associations, federations, and councils are in turn, full members of international federations and associations, who organize a particular sport on a global scale, such as the VRB (rugby) or the IVEFA (football).
